We would like to think that The Shakespeare pub is a ‘public house’ in the original sense of the expression. In fact, the word ‘pub’, which we are now so familiar with, is a shortened version of the term ‘public house’ and derives from a time when English home owners were first granted licences to open their doors to the public and to serve them alcohol. The original feel of these establishments was, of course, both homely and cosy, given that they were places where families actually lived.

Our aim at The Shakespeare, then, is to offer as warm a welcome as you might expect if you were invited to somebody’s house for the evening and to encourage a friendly, family atmosphere where newcomers are made to feel at home from the very moment they walk through the door.

Here at The Shakespeare, the quality of our products is also first class; we serve a wide selection of reasonably priced beers both on tap and in bottles, catering to every taste. Fine wines and spirits are also available. Add to this our weekly agenda of cultural activities which include live music, bilingual quizzes, games and exhibitions and we’d like to think that we offer a perfect recipe for a highly enjoyable visit.
